Henry's Quilt Restoration

On May 30, 2015 I began the journey of restoring Henry Roland’s quilt that was given to him by his late grandmother when he was a young boy. As Henry traveled traveled around the country and lived in different places, the quilt finally made it back to our home in 2015 after being in storage for nearly a decade. My goal for reconstruction was to honor the original integrity and history of the quilt but recreate this treasured piece into a newish treasured quilt that could be actually used once again and loved in a new way. In the photos and text that follow, I’ll share my 1,295 day journey that ended with a finished quilt on December 15, 2018 and gifted to Henry on Christmas Eve, 2018.

My Second Quilt Show and My First Quilt Award!

I love quilt shows! All the beautiful quilts, friends, vendors, and demos contribute to this special time to come together and celebrate this art form.

Last year, my quilt Heart of Gold was displayed during QuiltCon in Pasadena, CA which is hosted my the Modern Quilt Guild. That was my first quilt show ever.

This year I entered 2 quilts into the Capitol of Texas QuiltFest hosted by my other quilt guild, the Austin Area Quilt Guild. (Yes, I’m a member of two talented local guilds!) My two entries into this year’s show were Waves and Magic Lights.

When I arrived to the QuiltFest I wandered over to the demo area, took a seat, and started glancing at the program. Inserted under the cover of this booklet is a page of the award winners, so I started skimming to see which of my quilt friends won awards. Several did and I’m so proud and excited for them! Then, to my surprise, I noticed my name on the list! Magic Lights won an Honorable Mention. And I have to say…it feels awesome to be recognized.
